Patent Deposit Service

CellBank Australia was formally recognised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) as a International Depository Authority (IDA) under the Budapest Treaty (Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure on September 30, 2009). Intellectual property offices world-wide require the written disclosure for an invention of a new microorganism to be supplemented by the deposit of that microorganism in a recognised culture collection.

CellBank Australia accepts Human and Animal cell lines and hybridomas up to the PC1 and PC2 level of containment that can be preserved in liquid nitrogen vapours without significant change to or loss of their properties or viability.

As an IDA, CellBank Australia is required to provide services on the same terms to any depositor. We will accept and store microorganisms deposited with us for the full period specified in the Treaty (at least 30 years or five years after the most recent request for a sample whichever is the later). Furthermore we will release (furnish) samples of deposited microorganisms only to those entitled to receive them.

Every deposit is assigned a unique accession number on arrival at CellBank Australia.  Accession numbers are provisional until the patent has proved viable passed quality control testing.

To enable CellBank Australia to determine the suitability of your patent deposit and to prepare for the arrival of patent deposits, please submit a Notification of a Patent Deposit Form prior to dispatch of your samples.
