Cultured Vero cells stained with crystal violetServices

Most researchers know that it is important to source their cell lines from a repository or other facility with appropriate quality control.  However, sometimes this may not be possible.  In such situations, CellBank Australia aims to offer testing or culture services that will allow the researcher to answer certain key questions.  Is the cell line contaminated with Mycoplasma?  Is the cell line correctly identified, and does it match other cultures of the same name grown by cell line repositories?

Mycoplasma Testing (more...)

We perform testing on medium taken from cultured cells, looking for Mycoplasma contamination.  Two tests are offered, a rapid test and a culture-based test looking for low level contamination.

Identification Testing (more...)

We perform testing on human cell lines using short tandem repeat profiling, a recognised gold standard for authentication of cell lines.  A cell pellet is usually required for the test.  A second reference sample can be given, and is included within the same price, for comparison to another cell line or to frozen tissue.

Culture and Return (more...)

If requested, we are able to take a cell line supplied by the researcher and culture it at repository grade, returning a "bank" of vials that has been tested for sterility, Mycoplasma, viability and identity (the latter is optional for external cell lines).  While the process is the same as for cell lines deposited at the facility, here the researcher is not obliged to deposit the cell line for distribution, and he or she receives back all vials for their own use.

Liquid Nitrogen Storage (more...)

External vials may be stored securely within the facility's liquid nitrogen storage system.  This service is intended to provide backup storage for the cell line, rather than replacing the laboratory's own storage systems.  Vials are stored in vapour phase of liquid nitrogen, with tracking of inventory via CellBank Australia's custom-made database system.  A fee is charged per year of storage and for handling and retrieval of vials.
All services are for research use only and are not for clinical or diagnostic use.
