Deposit Query

General Information

Please click here for a pdf version of this form that you can complete away from the website.

Thank you for expressing your interest in depositing a cell line in CellBank Australia. The information
requested in this form will help us to establish whether the cell line is suitable for deposit.

If the cell line is suitable and you wish to proceed further, you will be asked to provide additional information
about its culture conditions in the Accession Form.  You will also be asked to sign a Material Transfer
Agreement before the cell line is shipped to us.

Please be aware that we are unable to accept cell lines that have been developed by other laboratories
or institutions unless the originator of the cell line, or a representative of their institution, gives permission
for this in writing. CellBank Australia is a PC2 facility and is unable to accept cultures at PC3 or PC4 level
containment.

Risk Assessment

For additional information and detailed lists of organisms in each grouping, see AS/NZ 2243.3 2002 – Safety in Laboratories Part 3: Microbiological Aspects and Containment Facilities.  The facility is unable to safely handle Risk Groups 3 and 4 and so cannot accept cell lines in those categories.  Cultures derived from human clinical material with no known infectious disease are usually classified as risk group 2.

The definition of a genetically modified organism (GMO) can be found in the Gene Technology Act 2000 and on the website of the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (http://www.ogtr.gov.au/).

What risk group does the cell belong to?

Risk Group 1 (handled at PC1):
Low individual and community risk.
Organisms unlikely to cause disease in animals or humans.
Risk Group 2 (handled at PC2):
Moderate individual risk, limited community risk.
Pathogen that can cause animal or human disease, but is unlikely to be
a serious hazard to laboratory workers, the community, livestock or the
environment.  Laboratory exposure may cause infection, but preventative
measures and effective treatments are available, and the risk of spread is
limited.  Includes human opportunistic pathogens.
Risk Group 3 (handled at PC3):
High individual risk, limited community risk.
Pathogen that usually causes serious human or animal disease.
May present a serious hazard to laboratory staff. It could present a risk
if spread in the community or the environment, but there are usually
preventive measures or effective treatments available.
Risk Group 4 (handled at PC4):
High individual and community risk.
Pathogen that usually produces life-threatening human or animal disease.
Represents a serious hazard to laboratory workers and is readily transmissible.
Preventative measures and effective treatments are not usually available.
