  • In a November 7 announcement, the NHMRC indicates that the Universal Funding Rules have been updated to note the potential problems of cell line contamination and recommend "that researchers employ quality assurance procedures to ensure their eukaryotic cell lines are free from mycoplasma and other contaminant cells, and are verified as the cell type required".
  • "Curing Cell Lines" by Jeffrey M. Perkel, BioTechniques 51:85-90 (2011) [full text], discusses the forthcoming international standards for cell line identification, including comment from Dr Amanda Capes-Davis, founding manager of CellBank Australia.
  • In an associated editorial, the BioTechniques Editor-in-Chief, Nathan S. Blow, announces BioTechniques will require the validation of all cell lines used in manuscripts from January 2012. 

Conferences and presentations
