Liquid Nitrogen StorageIf you have a number of important cell lines stored in your laboratory, you may be concerned about the possibility of losing frozen stocks in the event of a freezer failure. The Secure Storage service is available for those researchers who wish to store a small proportion of their frozen vials offsite as a backup to their primary storage.
Features of this service:
- Frozen vials are stored under the same conditions as the repository's own vials, in vapour phase of liquid nitrogen. Storage temperatures are consistently below -150ÂșC.
- Duplicate vials are spread across at least two liquid nitrogen storage systems.
- Liquid nitrogen storage systems are connected to a building-wide alarm system, with continuous monitoring of storage temperature and remote alarms.
- Alarm systems and storage systems are connected to generator backup in the case of power failure.
- All vials are tracked using the CellBank Australia database, which assigns a unique ID number to each vial. These numbers are either added on arrival or can be sent to the researcher prior to shipment.
The facility accepts vials of cells grown for research purposes only; the service is not appropriate for clinical or diagnostic grade samples. Pricing varies with the number of vials to be stored and the number of shipments, with an additional storage fee per year. |
