Cytokine Profiling
A team of Australian-based researchers have demonstrated that chemotherapy resistance both in vitro and in patients is associated with an inflammatory response involving cytokines linked to macrophage recruitment and activation. Their article, titled "Cytokine profiling of docetaxel-resistant castration-resistant prostate cancer," was published in the British Journal of Cancer on 31 March 2015.
The identity of the cell lines used in the study was authenticated by CellBank Australia. The research was funded by the Cancer Institute New South Wales (CI NSW), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF), Cancer Australia, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA), RT Hall Trust, Tour de Cure, and Sydney Catalyst and Cancer Council NSW.

Upcoming Cell Culture Seminar
CellBank Australia is offering a free seminar to research institutions in the Sydney area in 2015, titled "Is Cell Culture a Risky Business?" The seminar has been developed by Dr Amanda Capes-Davis, and looks at the risks that relate to cell culture work, and how to minimise those risks through Good Cell Culture Practice.
Amanda will present the seminar at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday 21 April 2015. Researchers from outside the Garvan Institute are most welcome to attend the seminar.
