NMR-based Binding Study

Researchers from Australia and overseas have for the first time described a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based binding study of high affinity Siglec-2 (CD22) ligands in complex with whole Burkitt’s lymphoma (BL) Daudi cells. Their article was published in the journal, Scientific Reports, on 3 November 2016. Here, the authors conclude that their approach could provide new avenues in the development of tailored therapeutics and personalized medicines. The BL Daudi cell line was purchased from the European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC; Porton Down, Salisbury, UK) and cells were authenticated by CellBank Australia. To read the article, click here.

2016 Australian Research Roadmap

Earlier this year, I attended a 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap - Capability Issues Paper Consultation session with the Chief Scientist of Australia, Dr Alan Finkel, where I explained that over the next ten years Australia's life science researchers will need better access to high quality cell lines, cell culture related services, and to training on both clinical good manufacturing practice and good cell culture practice. On 2 November 2016, stakeholders were notified that the release of the Draft 2016 Roadmap is expected later this year. To read the update, click here.

How CellBank Australia can Help

Distribution of JCRB Cell Bank Supplied Cell Lines to Oceania

CellBank Australia is pleased to announce that it has been appointed as the Australia and New Zealand distributor for cell lines of the JCRB Cell Bank of Japan's National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN). This means that CellBank Australia's international catalog now includes cell lines supplied by both the European Collection of Authenticated Cell Cultures (ECACC) and the JCRB Cell Bank (JCRB; Osaka, JP). It also means that we are the only national not-for-profit cell line repository in the world that is partnering with not one but two leading overseas repositories to ensure that its region's researchers can get the high quality cell lines that they need, easily and cheaply, to conduct world-class medical research.

Human Cell Authentication Testing

For human cells, CellBank Australia uses Short Tandem Repeat profiling to examine the number of tetranucleotide repeats at various loci to differentiate cell lines from different donors. CellBank Australia now offers human cell authentication testing for just ** $166 Australian dollars ** per sample, excluding GST.
