Description

Description: Derived from a rat glial tumour induced by N-nitrosomethylurea. The cells produce S-100 protein which is found in the neural tissue of vertebrates and has been found in brain tumours. Synthesis of S-100 increases 10 fold as cells reach confluency.

Growth Medium: Ham’s F12 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculturing Procedure: Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 1-3×10000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
